BVW - Round 5 Final

Engine: Unity Platform: Hololens, Jam-O-Drum Duration: 2 weeks Language: C#

Today we finished our last project of BVW! My team's game involved the Jam-O-Drum, a CMU created plaform consisting of a projector above a circular table with 4 wheels and drums that can provide input. We networked the Jam-O-Drum to a Hololens to create a unique experience combining projection and holograms that the instructors said they'd never seen done before. We wanted to encourage communication between people, so one player in our game will be wearing a Hololens, which gives them additional information that they must tell the other players. Each spinning wheel controls all the pots of that color. Players must rotate the pots and line up a pathway for the character to walk through. All players initially see a monster, which then becomes invisible to everyone except one player wearing the Hololens. When the boss changes to a certain color, that player will know that the pots of that color are under attack by the boss. One third of those pots will become on fire, which will kill the character if he happens to be on it. In the last level, beams of light in the hololens indicate where secrets are hidden. If the character arrives on one of those secret panels, it will flip over to reveal a weapon which can be used to attack the boss.

One challenge while creating this game was having two separate Unity projects, one for each platform. This made it more difficult to debug and test the game, as it would take longer to set up the whole system. We also had to deal with the fact that our networking setup could send messages from the Jam-O-Drum to the Hololens but not the other way around. So the scripts had to be structured around this one way communication.
